Fortune Cookies
Chronicle is hosting a Bake Sale today to raise money for the Red Cross, Haiti Earthquake Relief Fund, so last night Emily (my fellow fellow) and I decided to do some baking. Whilst scouring the cookbooks we came across the recipe for fortune cookies (fact of the day: fortune cookies were invented in San Francisco, not China) and we decided they would be a nice alternative to the usual biscuits and cup cakes. The fortunes we put inside all referenced different Chronicle books which gave them a nice personal touch!
Actually making the cookies was a fairly tricky task, you have to cook them for just the right amount of time, so they are not to hard and not to soft and then you literally have to pick them up straight out of the oven in order to put the fortune in and fold them up before they get to cool and brittle. Emily was in charge of taking them out of the oven and flipping them whilst I was in charge of the fortunes and folding. I now have very sore fingertips!
